India has made its position clear after China objected to the names given by India to 27 places and geographical features in Arunachal Pradesh. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral and inseparable part of India. It also made clear that China’s objections cannot change India’s position on the state.MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal responded to China’s statement during a press briefing on Tuesday. China Questions India’s Names for Arunachal Pradesh Locations
The latest dispute began after India announced standard names for 27 places and geographical features in Arunachal Pradesh. According to Indian officials, these names have been included in official Indian records and maps. The move is also being seen as a response to China’s repeated attempts to give its own names to different locations in Arunachal Pradesh. China rejected the names announced by India and described them as ineffective and invalid.
Differences Over the LAC Continue
The Arunachal Pradesh issue is part of the wider border dispute between India and China. The two countries also continue to have differences over several issues related to the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Against this backdrop, India’s latest statement is being seen as another clear message that its position on Arunachal Pradesh remains unchanged. India has repeatedly stated that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of the country and that attempts to rename places in the state cannot change the situation on the ground. The latest MEA statement once again underlines India’s position that Arunachal Pradesh is part of India and that no statement or decision by another country can alter this fact.
